Letter from the Chair of Governors

Dear Parent/Carer

I am delighted to welcome you to Sir Harry Smith Community College. We pride ourselves on the community of the college where staff, students, and parents and carers share the same aims for our young people. Sir Harry Smith fosters a secure and caring environment in which learning and development are at the forefront and where students are valued as individuals. We want our students to become independent and confident young people who are sensitive to others, interested in the world around them and prepared for the challenges ahead.

Ofsted most recently visited the college in February 2024 and found no change to the overall judgement of good. There were many positives mentioned in this report which the governing body is naturally pleased to see. There were, however, also some areas to improve on which will be driving our focus as we strive to support the college in its ambition to become even better.

Governors come from a range of backgrounds, bringing skills and knowledge which helps the college. The governing body is comprised of parents, staff and co-opted members. Any one interested in finding out more or volunteering as a governor is encouraged to contact the clerk to the governors.

The governing body believes that it is important that parents and carers feel welcome at college. We strive for strong partnerships between home, college, parents and staff. That relationship helps to build confidence and development in students, and we depend on the co-operation and support of parents.

The college looks forward to welcoming yourself and your child in the near future, so that they can take the step to become the best they can be.

Jack Langley
