On Tuesday 11th June, two of our Year 10 students, Bailey-Mae Walker and Jeremi Trojak represented Sir Harry Smith Community College at the Speak Out Challenge Final at Anglia Ruskin University Peterborough, competing against students from other Cambridgeshire schools.
At the event, they attended a workshop hosted by a professional public speaking trainer before presenting their speech in front of a large audience and a panel of judges drawn from prominent members of the community; lots of family, friends and school staff were also in the audience to support.
The Speakers Trust is a charity providing communications skills training and platforms for young people to speak out to build confidence, self-belief and aspiration. Their Speak Out Challenge programme enables 14-15 year olds to become more confident, build understanding of their peers and thrive in their next step in education and employment.
Both students performed fantastic speeches and were an absolute credit to the College. They worked hard to prepare in the weeks leading up to the competition, whilst also completing schoolwork and mock GCSE exams. We are extremely proud of them.
Congratulations to Bailey-Mae Walker and Jeremi Trojak
