Aims

The aim of OCR Cambridge National in Child development, Level 3 BTEC in Health and Social Care and Level 3 BTEC in Children’s Play Learning and Development as vocational subjects are aimed to prepare students for further studies in a wide range of job roles and qualifications. Over KS4 and KS5 students develop research skills, communication skills, independence and confidence.  Students study a range of different topics sitting exams and completing written assignments. Vocational subjects are designed to support students to go on to varied opportunities within the sectors to make a difference to people’s lives in a positive way – and the demand for skilled people in these areas is growing.

KS4 – Years 10-11

In years 10-11 we offer OCR Cambridge National in Child development. This qualification will help to develop knowledge, understanding and skills that will support students in caring for children, starting from pre-conception through to children aged birth to five years. The course consists of coursework tasks set by the exam board in both year 10 and 11 making up 60% of the final qualification and a final formal exam at the end of year 11 providing the final 40%. This qualification allows students to gain knowledge and skills to help provide a safe and supportive environment for children in their care.

KS5 - Sixth Form

We currently offer Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate in Health and Social Care and Level 3 BTEC Extended Certificate in Children’s Play Learning and Development. Both these qualifications are a vocational equivalent to an A level. A BTEC National in Children's Play, Learning and Development offers you the opportunity to study a broad range of early years related topics, which will be relevant in many different vocational settings. You are required to complete 50 hours of work experience which play an integral part in our students written assignments. A BTEC National in Health and Social Care offers a wide range of topic units. Students will learn about the human body and how it changes over time. What it means to work in the Health and social are sector and what skills and behaviours you will need to demonstrate considering legislation, procedures/policies, ethical dilemmas, equality, patient centred care, Multi-disciplinary Team Working and Confidentiality. Both of the BTEC National subjects will help prepare students for a wide range of careers or for further study on a range of degree programmes.
